Your Paint Deserves More Than Clear Coat Alone

Paint Protection Film in Salado, TX

Rock chips happen fast, usually on a highway with no time to react. Paint protection film gives your most exposed panels a sacrificial layer that takes those hits so your factory clear coat does not have to. At Northstar Automotive Appearance in Salado, TX, every installation is cut and applied by hand to fit your vehicle's actual panels rather than a generic template.

Built to Take the Hit So Your Paint Does Not Have To

What's Really Happening Underneath the Film

Think of it as armor for your clear coat: a thin, transparent film applied directly to your paint that intercepts rocks, gravel, and road debris before they ever reach the surface underneath. Our film also carries a self-healing quality, so light marks and fine swirls can disappear on their own with a bit of heat exposure over time.

The film itself is built in layers, with a topcoat designed to resist staining and yellowing, a thicker urethane core that absorbs the actual impact, and an adhesive layer that bonds to your paint without trapping moisture or debris underneath. That layered construction is what allows the film to take a hit without transferring the damage straight through to your clear coat.

Every installation at our Salado shop is custom-cut and hand-applied panel by panel to match your vehicle precisely. Our technicians work the film into curves, body lines, and trim edges by hand rather than relying on a generic, one-size template, which is a big part of why the finished result looks like it was never installed at all.

Deciding Between a Clear or Matte/Satin Look

Every package on this page can be installed in either a clear finish, which keeps your factory paint looking exactly as it did, or a matte/satin finish, which gives your vehicle a non-glossy look while delivering the same coverage underneath. Neither option changes what the film actually does. Both provide the same impact resistance on the panels they cover, so the decision really comes down to appearance rather than performance.

Clear is the more popular choice for drivers who want the coverage without changing how the vehicle looks in any way; parked next to an unfilmed panel, the two are nearly impossible to tell apart. Matte/satin, on the other hand, is a deliberate style choice, often selected by drivers who already have a matte or satin vehicle, or who want that low-sheen look on a factory glossy car without committing to a full paint change.

Our team can walk you through both finishes in person, including how each one looks in direct sunlight versus overcast conditions, before you make a decision.

Why PPF Quality Matters

Not every film on the market performs the same, and the difference really comes down to two things: impact resistance and optical clarity. Impact resistance is what actually stops a rock chip or a piece of road debris from reaching your paint, and it depends on the thickness and construction of the film itself rather than just how it looks in the package. A film that is too thin or poorly constructed can crack or fail on impact instead of absorbing it, which defeats the purpose of installing it in the first place.

Optical clarity matters just as much, even though it gets less attention. Film that is not properly clear introduces a slight haze, distortion, or yellowing over time, especially under direct sun, and once that happens it is very noticeable against your factory paint. We select film specifically for its ability to stay clear and color-true for years, so your vehicle looks like it is running bare paint rather than looking like it has a layer of plastic over it.

Every installation starts with a full paint decontamination so the film bonds cleanly to the surface underneath, since even high-quality film will not perform as intended if it is applied over a surface that has not been properly prepped.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does paint protection film actually hold up against damage?

It works as a buffer between your paint and the road. When debris strikes the surface, the film absorbs that impact before it ever reaches your factory paint, and minor marks can heal on their own with some heat exposure.

  • How do you decide what brand you use to install?

We choose film based on impact resistance and optical clarity above anything else, since those two factors are what determine whether the film actually protects your paint and whether it stays looking clear for years rather than hazing or yellowing over time. Our team stays current on what is performing well in the field and adjusts what we install accordingly.

  • Will people be able to tell my car has film on it?

In the clear finish, it stays essentially invisible and keeps your paint looking factory original. In matte/satin, it gives your vehicle a non-glossy look while still delivering the same coverage.

  • Is there a warranty on the film?

Every package listed here includes a 10-year warranty.
